Bravo TV host Andy Cohen recently fell victim to a credit card scam, losing thousands of dollars. The scam began after Cohen lost his debit card, and scammers posing as bank employees contacted him. They gained access to his financial information by tricking him into logging into his bank account through an illegitimate link. The scammers then continued their communication through phone calls and text messages, ultimately tricking Cohen into approving wire transfers from his account.
Cohen discovered the scheme after visiting his bank branch the next day. The NYPD Cyber Security Unit was immediately contacted to investigate the theft. This scam is an example of email phishing, bank fraud, and imposter schemes, which have become one of the most reported types of scams in recent years. According to the Federal Trade Commission, more than 600,000 cases were reported through the 3rd quarter of 2023, resulting in the loss of over $2 Billion. Andy recently appeared on the Today Show to detail his experience and provide tips to protect others from similar scams.
